Today
Sam’s phone rang with an unfamiliar number and as he picked it up, before he had a chance to utter “hello” a gruff voice on the other end of the line began speaking.
“We have your pet demon Winchester but what we really want is you and your brother, meet us at 5311 Anderson Court in two hours or I promise I will mail pieces of her to you for years."
Three days ago
Ruby had been looking in on her old contacts, trying to piece together some semblance of a life, the problem was that now she was the most infamous demon next to Crowley. She had contacts in the hunting community besides Sam and Dean and it was some of those contacts that she’d hoped to try to get a hold of today by taking the risk she was. She had found an older hunter’s number, a guy by the name of Riley, who she had worked with to stop a few seals from being broken years ago. He seemed happy to hear from her and invited her to his place for a drink or two and to talk about the current Castiel situation. Of course it was a risk but without Sam firmly in her corner she needed some sort of back up so to Riley’s she went. It was a trap.
The hunters set on her the moment she walked through the door, using a brand to burn into her a sigil to keep her locked in her vessel’s body. It was a very little known way of dealing with demons, normally something used only in their torture, but for those who knew where to look they could obtain such items. It seemed that Riley had been planning this sort of revenge for some time now. They didn’t ask her any questions for two days, they just inflicted every type of torture on her that they could think of, making her pay for being what she was. Then finally Riley told her what they really wanted, Sam Winchester, dead. They thought that because Sam was Lucifer’s vessel that he had to be evil. Of course they also wanted Dean dead for the simple fact that they were sure that if they killed Sam that Dean would never stop till they paid for it.
Ruby tried to tell them that Sam didn’t care enough about her to come to rescue her, that they would be doing him a favor if they killed her, but they didn’t believe her. When they finally made the call to Sam she made the decision that she would rather die then encourage his hero complex, five hunters vs. the Winchesters (if Sam brought Dean) were bad odds.
As Riley held the phone up to Ruby’s ear she glared at him in defiance, her jaw setting with the decision having been made. He looked down to her, his eyes promising all new pain unless she did what he wanted.
“Tell him you are here bitch.”
She shook her head and then spit in his face, she had gotten herself into this and she damn well would get herself out of it. It wasn’t until one of Riley’s cronies splashed holy water across her face that she made a sound, screaming out in pain as it burned into her face. As soon as she realized that Sam had surely heard her she found her voice rather quickly, pained though it was.
“Don’t you dare come here Samuel Winchester and get rid of any of those stupid knight in shining armor ideas out of your head. It’s a trap.”
Riley pulled the phone away from Ruby, putting it back to his own ear.
“Two hours Sammy or the only thing here of hers you’ll find is those pretty little lips and a whole lot of demon blood.”
