For the last eight hours he'd been in his car. Finally taking a detour off the interstate and hitting a small town. What was it's name again? Oh yeah, Florence. Seemed like a nice enough place, though then again being a hunter you knew not to always trust first appearances as they could be deceiving. He didn't have a case in town, it was just a time to rest and recooperate. Get in touch with his sister, see if she'd found anything though he was sure she hadn't. If she had he was sure she'd be blaring it through telepathy to him. No he guessed that their father had his reasons for being gone and that he'd come back when he was good and ready to. But telling that to his sister was another thing entirely. If their father ever had a fan club, Maya would be the obcessive president of it. He loved his sister but the girl sometimes got a bit carried away. He could only guess that it had to do with how they lost their mother.
His stomach rumbled and interupted his thoughts. Faint grin tugged his lips upward. "Yeah, yeah... I hear ya. I'm gettin' to it." Okay so maybe talking to yourself wasn't that healthy but it wasn't like he had someone here to talk to. Sure he could long distance chat with Maya but he also liked actually talking to someone who was next to him. Brown eyes scanned the places to eat as he drove a bit slower now. Denny's. Nah, had that last week. Fast food joints. No thank you. Hey look Waffle House. And the sudden urge for pancakes struck him. Waffle House it was going to be then. He pulled his car into the parking lot and into a space before killing the engine.
He opened the door and stepped out the car, he straightened his leather jacket and cast a glance about the parking lot. It was late afternoon, close to five as he glanced at the watch on his wrist. He shut the door of his car and leaned back against his Camero. Reaching into a pocket of his jacket he pulled a pack of Marlboro Reds and a lighter. Taking a cigarette from the pack he placed it between his lips and flicked the lighter and inhaled until the end of the cigarette burned to life. Removing the cigarette and holding it between his pointer and middle finger of his left hand he blew out the smoke. One cigarette to feed his taste for the nicotine and then he'd stuff his face with all the pancakes he could stand to eat. And possibly whatever else caught his fancy.
He lifted his hand again and took another drag of his cigarette as he tilted his head up to look at the sky. Reds, oranges, purples and pinks all mixing with the fading blue of the sky and lingering white clouds. It was all rather beautiful and it pulled a small smile to his lips. Sometimes the small things made this job all worth it. He took a little moment there to himself to send up a small prayer of thanks for his family, to ask for safety for them and to thank God for everything he'd done for them so far and then to ask forgiveness for his sins before a silent 'Amen' was mouthed. He wasn't the most holy of men, or the most holy of angels. Hell he knew in a way he wasn't either really. Just something inbetween and fighting for what he believed was right. Maybe he'd make a difference, maybe he wouldn't, but he was damn sure going to try.
A sound to his right brought him back to reality though and out of his revarie about God and his place and the whole grand scheme of things. Really what point was there in worrying over it tonight when food was calling his name? Gaze moved from the sky and down to settle upon the figure there as he flicked his cigarette away and blew out the last drag he'd taken. Evenin'." A slight southern twang in his tone as a gentle smile spread over his features.
